Hello, I'm Rachael,

a creative soul living in West Limerick, Ireland

I’m an illustrator and designer with over 22 years of experience, and a ‘secret name’ behind many internationally recognised greeting card collections. I predominantly freelanced for UK publishers, and my work is available in many stores across Ireland, the UK and right across the globe.

Working both traditionally and digitally, often combining the two my work can include anything from painting, stitching, pen and ink, mark-making, watercolours, printing and pattern all brought together like a jigsaw puzzle to create colourful, uplifting illustrations. I love pareidolia and believe many hours spent cloud spotting with my nan as a child, inspired my creativity. I delight in transforming and incorporating prints made from everyday objects such as lollipop sticks, pegs, toy cars, bubble wands; into the icons and patterns in my illustration work.

Recently my portfolio has focused on illustration and surface pattern pieces for fabric design, editorial illustration, children’s apparel, home-wares, books and private commissions. I would be delighted to hear from art directors or buyers wishing to license my work.

Sharing my love of creativity with others, led me to establish a thriving children’s art club, a drink and draw evening (thanks COVID for temporarily putting this on hold) and creating a series of Adult and Children’s Workshops which I facilitate at various events.

Following a dream to own a cottage in a wood, we found one with a babbling stream and a bit of land in rural Ireland. My husband and I packed our belongings, left our Yorkshire homeland, set sail to make Ireland our home. A home which we now share with our hairy black dog and two children.

Other things I love are camping, hiking, veg growing, in fact, anything outdoorsy, audiobooks, sewing, baking, coffee, cake and a chinwag and playing card and board games, especially Rapidough!

  • #bees 🐝 are amazing creatures, did you know they shake their bums 'the waggle dance' to tell other bees where to search for nectar 🌻. This is just one of the many amazing facts about bees, as well as being super important to human existence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
'Madam Honey' The Queen Bee of tea, recommends grabbing a cuppa ☕️and having a meander outside and seeing if you can spot the workers buzzing around like super heroes doing their bit to save mankind!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • A moment in history, 100 years since this gentleman Captain Paddy Dalton was shot by Black and Tans in along with Jerry Lyons and Paddy Walsh, at Gortaglanna, Knockanure on May 12th 1921 for their involvement in the War of independence. This illustration I created as part of the Athea Heritage Trail #atheaheritagetrail #warofindependance #irishhistory #irishhistoryandheritage #irishfreedom #irishillustration #irish illustrator #irishportraits

  • What a delightful few weeks. Community groups throughout West Limerick engaged in the 'signs of positivity' project. It's been a pure joy interacting with the participants, mentoring their progress and seeing, hearing what the project meant to them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WLR engaged my services to deliver a remote creative course spanning five weeks, and in recording the 'how-to' video's and creating a step by step booklet, I created my own sign, 'smile and shine'. Now hung in the garden, it brings a smile to my face every time I step outside.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
'Signs of Positivity' are now hanging in peoples gardens throughout West Limerick, all handcrafted from tin cans, wood, hand-lettering, paint and an abundance of creativity. Selecting the perfect paint for the project was paramount. After much research and reading the backs of paint cans, #Ronseal Garden Paint was the ideal discovery.....It ticked all the right boxes for a community project. West Limerick Resources will be sharing the results throughout May on their FB page.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I offer all kinds of creative workshops for children and adults or tailor-make them to suit your organisation to fulfil development goals and funding criteria. There are a few options on my website, but if you have a goal and need a creative solution, I'm always happy to discuss and develop new ideas. Workshops can be delivered virtually or in-person when Covid-restrictions allow.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Today is a Happy Day! 😀It sees the launch of the SICAP/West Limerick Resources 'Signs of Positivity' Project. As the creative facilitator, 🎨The run-up to the launch has been busy and varied, creating the content for the remote crafting workshop spanning five weeks. From material sourcing, concept delivery, staged photography📷, content writing, instructional booklet design, instructional video recording🎥, Carpentry🪚 (nothing too skilled, but an afternoon with a sander and a chop saw....happy girl) and filling 180 pill containers with paint-that was a first!Members of Community Groups throughout West Limerick will produce a door Sign displaying a positive message. Participants will be up-cycling drink cans into colourful blooms, ageing wood, learning a heap about Typography, creating hand lettering and finally bringing it all together to produce a 'Sign of Positivity' to hang outside, spreading a little joy to passersby and people of West Limerick. #wlrsignsofpositivity #learningcommunities #lovelearning #westlimerick #workshopfacilitator #craftfacilitator #artfacilitator
